Tip - Storing Salads (Greens)

Storing salads and other vegetables can be difficult. Keeping it fresh overnight or until lunch--near impossible! Here are a few tips that help.

  • Use a salad spinner to dry greens before you assemble your salad. This keeps extra moisture away from the salad.
  • Always store wet/watery ingredients like tomatoes or dressings in a separate container until it is time to serve the salad. You can preload your salad with carrots and other shredded vegetables. Nuts may lose their crispness. Protein and grains should be added at serving.
  • Place a paper towel to the bottom of your storage container before adding the salad. Then cover tightly and place on the lower level of the refrigerator.
