Baked Sesame Tofu Sticks are made of firm textured tofu. They are marinated in sesame oil and tamari sauce. Any recipe that uses sesame oil is going to taste heartier and flavorful. Baking time determines just how crunchy these sticks become. People will be surprised that this is tofu because of the general perception that tofu is soft.
This is a great finger food that stands in for the not-so- healthy finger food of today. Great with salads, toast, pancakes, home fried potatoes, oatmeal, bagels, or party trays. These are good for lunch or travel bags.
Ingredients
1 12-oz. package of extra firm tofu textured (and *drained) ½ cup roasted sesame oil ¼ cup tamari (soy sauce) or Braggs Liquid Aminos® |
Instructions
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Pour oil in the bottom of an 11" x 16" x 3.5" baking dish. Make sure that bottom is completely covered. Drain tofu (see tip below).
Slice tofu 1/4" thick across the width of the tofu block and then cut slices in half or thirds (to desired thickness). Place in dish, making two rows in the pan. Immediately turn each piece over in order to coat both sides with the oil. Sprinkle tamari directly onto each slice. (It should soak in like a sponge.) Add more, if needed. Cook for approximately 20 minutes. Turn and bake for 10 minutes or until most of the moisture has been absorbed (or to desired firmness). Let cool for approximately 10 minutes and serve. Serves 4. |
*Drain tofu. Place the tofu on a cutting board at the sink. Place a dinner plate on top of tofu and apply pressure so that the water runs out of the block.
Now your tofu is ready for slicing as desired.
