Broccoli and Bacon

Broccoli and Bacon is a quick recipe and a excitingly different breakfast. It takes us away from the traditional breakfast but delivers the nutritents and tastes that more than qualifies it as healthy breakfast. It is all vegetarian and low calorie, low fat and zero cholesterol! And delicious!

We start with broccoli slaw pre-cut which saves us time. It you cannot find it at your grocery store, you can pre-cut your own broccoli using the stalks. 

The bacon is from the grain tempeh. Is a marinated organic soy product made by Turtle Island Foods. It simply requires browning. 2 strips provides 3.5 grams of protein. Most health food stores carry the Turtle Island alternative meat products.



1 cup of Trader Joe's Broccoli Slaw or shredd  broccoli stalks and add 1/4 cup of shredded carrots

1 tsp. olive or canola oil

1/2 tsp. tamari sauce of Braggs Liquid Aminos 

1 dash of garlic powder

2 Strips of Marinated Tempeh


A tsp. of water may be used instead of the tamari sauce.

Serve on toast or a with a bagel.


For quick preparation use a large  skillet at medium heat.

Place the tempeh stripes to a far side of the pan for warming or heat in your table top grill to get markings and even heating.

On the other side of pan add oil. Once heated add broccoli.

Sprinkle with garlic and tamari. Let cook for 2 minutes and then stir.

Cook to your desired texture.

Place on a small plate and top with bacon strips.

Serves 1.
